Veteran T-Shirts from the 6 Branches of the U.S. Military

Veterans, thank you for your service. As a U.S. Army veteran, I understand the true bravery and honor you’ve brought our country. So, again, thank you.

Did you know that all military branches wear t-shirts? For instance, as an Army service members we wore O.D. Green t-shirts underneath our B.D.U. field uniforms, and light gray P.T. shirts with ARMY in black lettering. Every branch has similar t-shirts for field and physical training gear.

And I believe that U.S. military veteran t-shirts are one of the best gifts you can give a veteran you love.

Even 30 years after leaving active duty, I enjoy wearing patriotic veteran t-shirts to pay homage to my time serving and continued pride in everyone who has served.

Fortunately, I have scoured the web for the best veteran t-shirts from all six branches of the U.S. military to help you find the best one for you (or your family member).

Was the T-Shirt Made for the Military?

T-shirts are one of the most popular apparel pieces worn every day across the globe. But its history is deeply rooted in the U.S. military.

Today’s t-shirt originated from an all-in-one undergarment in the 19th century called the Union Suit. To stay cooler in warmer climates, the men cut their Union Suits in half, creating two separate articles of clothing. And the top half evolved into the t-shirt we now know and love.

When 1905 rolled around, the U.S. Navy popularized the t-shirt by including it in their uniform just before WWI. Thousands of service members were required to wear it under their uniforms, a habit that continued upon returning home.

However, wearing t-shirts in public didn’t become acceptable until millions of veterans began donning them as casual outerwear after returning from WWII.
